Betty Smith
There is an About The Author at the end of our books. Through reading it I have found many similarities between Francie and Betty:
- Both were born in December of 1896.
- Both of them grew up in poor areas of Brooklyn.
- Both became writers.
- There is a photo of Betty on her fire escape in the book, similar to the one Francie used to read on.
Wow! These are some unique facts about the similarities of Francie and Betty Smith! Both seem to have a passion for writing, as they both entered the career of writing as they grew older. Most likely, Betty Smith's experiences with being raised in poor regions of Brooklyn inspired Francie's character; and gave definition to her surrounding setting.
ReplyDeleteBetty Smith's life is very similar to the Francie's the main character. I think Smith wrote her novel in the perspective of her life and translating it into Francie.
